New Year! New Leader!

January 7, 2017

Now that the new year has begun and the holiday season is behind you it’s time to dig into this new year! As a salon owner or manager, you have many tasks and duties that you juggle which means that you must wear many hats. The most important hat you wear is that of being a leader! An important quality that makes a great leader is reflection. Stopping to look back on what has occurred and what it means to success is critical. With that in mind here are some questions to help you look back on the year that was and plan for the year ahead:

As a leader, how have you grown this year?

What are you most proud of? Why?

What do you appreciate about your business and your role in it?

What was a turning point in your development this past year?

Why is that important to you?

Looking back on your personal goals from last year, what did you accomplish? How has it help you and helped the business?

Looking back on your personal goals from last year, what didn’t you accomplish? What happened? What can you learn from it?

Is there any conversation, situation or issue that is unresolved that you are carrying into this coming year? If so, what is it and what is your plan to complete it? By when?

What goals do you have to personally develop yourself this coming year as a leader?

Why is this important for you?

How will that help you grow?

How will it impact the culture?

What is the most important overall goal you want to accomplish for the business this coming year?

Why is this your top priority?

What do you need to learn, better understand or implement to make this happen?

Who will be involved in this and what will they need from you?

What will it mean to you to have accomplished this?

I recommend that you print this list of questions and take the time, in a quiet place, to think them through. Give yourself this gift as you start the new year. Your commitment to develop yourself will support you, the team and the business. You deserve the best!
