4 Ways To Be An Inclusive Leader!

Being a leader in the beauty business means being assessable to your team and to the business itself. However most owners spend the majority of their time with clients behind the chair or a closed door in a treatment room. It then becomes very challenging to give the proper, time, attention and presence to the important resources the business has, it’s people!

So what can you do?

For starters, replace at least two days as a service provider. This may sound challenging yet, it’s vital to future growth and sustainability.

Here’s how you do it:

Take what you produce on a daily basis (get a 3 month average) and then add whatever your current commission or payroll percentage is plus payroll tax. Then add in your current back bar percentage and your current credit card processing.

Now, why do this? Well, when you move clients to other team members you have to pay them and cover the hard cost of the work. Here’s an example:

Average per Day: $500

Current payroll % for Service Providers: 50% adds on another $250

Payroll Tax %: 12% adds on another $30 ($250 X 12% = $30)

Back Bar %: 7% adds on another $35

Credit Card Processing %: 2% adds on another $10.

Therefore when you work one day less you need to ensure sales growth of $825 a day to replace the day and still have the business generate what it needs. ($500 a day sales average plus expenses).

How do you get there?

  1. Ensure a proper handoff of clients to team members. Have them assist you with the client you will give to them at least 2 to 3 times so they can get their hands and heart involved with that client and build reapport for both sides. THis will ensure most of the $500 a day is captured.
  2. The remaining $325 can be captured via add on treatments and marketing high end services plus retail growth.

Once you get to this point (usually a 3 to 4 month journey) you’ve now given yourself the needed time to run your business and connect with your team to guide and support them! That first day is the start, the second business day can be attained using the same approach!

Think about it. In the next 6 to 8 months you can transform the very nature of how you run your company, achieving more balance, results and growth. Not only is it worth it, it’s critical to the success of everyone involved!

Track the number of clients you up sell to each week.

This tells you how effective you are in making recommendations above and beyond what your clients came in for.

Educate your client on what you are using, why you are using it and how they can use it at home.

Do this every client, every time and their experience with you goes to a whole new level while your retail results go through the roof!

Be sure you learn how to track what each client is spending with you on average. 

It's easy: 

Divide total service dollars by the number of clients on a given day, week or month and you have your average ticket. 

This will help you to see if you are working harder or smarter.
